Finally Made It Back

If you’ve wondered where I may have been, I’ve been right here. Nope I haven’t left, I just took a year or so hiatus while I sort out all the personal things that have been going on in my life.

As you may or may not know my wonderful bride of soon-to-be thirty-five years have taken in four orphans. When we got them they ranged in age from 10 months to 9 years. It has been a real life changing event for us as we have only raised one child to maturity. And now we’ve started all over again. Hey, like I have always heard, “Go big or go home.” So we decided to go big. Or would that be “go small” since these kids are small?

These kids didn’t ask for the situation they were put into and or of what they came out of, I am just thankful that we were able to have room to accommodate them all.

Some of you may remember when I talked about my wife and I had spent 25 years in one location and we decided it was time for a change. When the good Lord blessed us with a bigger house and some people ridiculed us for downsizing to a home twice the size of the home we were living in? Unbeknownst to us, apparently God had some plans of his own.

We bought our home in 2012. It was in May of that year that we finally got to move into the home. So this month we’re celebrating nine years in our new home.

When our son got married back in 2017 my wife and I began thinking about grandchildren so we went out and bought a vehicle with third row seating and rear entertainment. Still again, unbeknownst to us God had a plan. Little did we realize that in 2019 we would need that bigger house and that third-row-seated vehicle. Of course that DVD player in the back of the vehicle is a huge plus when we’re traveling.

We decided late last year that we wanted a vehicle a little larger to travel on. So my wife and I agreed that in January 2021 we would start looking for a Suburban or Yukon, one of the longer wheel based versions. And what’d you know God had another plan. That’s why I am going to give you at the end of this post one of my many favorite scriptures in the Bible. God always looks out for His own. In December of last year we came across a steal of a deal for a Cadillac Escalade ESV. Everything went so smoothly for us to purchase this vehicle, which was out of state.

When I sat down in it for the first time as an owner my words were, “God, I didn’t do anything to deserve this.” But He reminded me once again, “It’s not what you have done but what you are going to do.” This is the first Cadillac I’ve ever owned and I never thought I’d see myself ever looking at one to purchase. I still drive a beat-up 2008 Hyundai Sonata with 300,000+ miles to work everyday. But like the Apostle Paul stated in Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content (KJV).

We are looking forward to seeing the outcome from the fruit of our labor raising these kids. Like I’ve always said about my son, and my parents said about me, I’ll say it about these kids, they deserve better than what they’ve had and what I had.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33 KJV)
